The Highway Department oversees construction, maintenance and repair of roads within the unincorporated areas of the district, letting contracts, employing labor and purchasing material and machinery, subject to certain limitations. The Highway Department also provides snow removal services to the surrounding villages through intergovernmental agreements.  The Highway Commissioner is also responsible for preparing a budget for the Permanent Road fund as well as the General Road fund.

SOME HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT DUTIES BUT NOT LIMITED TO INCLUDE:

• Snowplowing and ice control
• Roadside mowing
• Tree trimming
• Drainage, storm sewers and culverts maintained to ensure proper flow of water
• National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES). Responsible for the development and implementation of our storm water program
• Repair and resurfacing of roads
